There are several new updates today for both MyNetwork Core and the Profile System!

MyNetwork Core v1.1.1
This update fixes some small issues with modules and an issue with uninstalling the Core where the datacache isn't removed properly.

Install MyNetwork Core v1.1.1
If you've never used MyNetwork before, or wanting to start completely from scratch, installing this version is easy. Just follow these simple instructions:
  • Backup your forum's files and database, and keep them locally on your computer
  • Download MyNetwork Core 1.1.1 from the MyNetwork downloads centre
  • Upload the files, following the structure in the download folder, relative to your forum's root folder
  • Visit the plugins page in the ACP (in the ACP, (on the left) Plugins) and install the MyNetwork Core plugin
  • Once installed, go the ACP home page, and on the left, is MyNetwork Overview - this is where you go when you upload features and modules to install/uninstall them
  • Have a browse through the MyNetwork downloads centre, and start adding the features and modules you want to your forum!
If you run into any issues, please use the relevant Support Forum here on Xekko.

Upgrade
If you're using Core v1.1.0, to upgrade the Core, simply download the new version and upload the new files - you do not need to deactivate or uninstall. It might be a good idea to turn off your forum via htaccess while you make any upgrade though.

If you're still using Core v1.0.0, the upgrade process is a bit longer. Check out the MyNetwork Core v1.1 release thread and the Upgrading MyNetwork Core section.

----------

Relative Time v1.1.1
An update to Relative Time is available. This update fixes a problem where if you deactivate the feature and go to re-activate it, it will actually reinstall instead.

Installing Relative Time v1.1.1
  • Backup your forum's files and database, and keep them locally on your computer
  • Download Relative Time v1.1.1 from the MyNetwork downloads centre
  • Upload the files, following the structure in the download folder, relative to your forum's root folder
  • Visit the MyNetwork Overview and select the Core module - Relative Time should be listed here
  • From Relative Time's Options menu, select Install
If you run into any issues, please use the relevant Support Forum here on Xekko.

Upgrade
To upgrade to this update, simply download the new version and upload the new files - you do not need to deactivate or uninstall.

----------

Profile System Beta 2
Today marks the ssecond beta test of the Profile System. Included in this update are a few bug fixes as well as a new plugin system for the Profile to help you extend it if you want to. There's also the Activity feature to try too, which shows you how to integrate into the tabs and deliver the content to the front end of the profile.

To be able to use Beta 2, please make sure you're using MyNetwork Core v1.1.1. There is no upgrade path between Beta 1 and Beta 2. Please save any customizations you've made to the templates, stylesheets and files before upgrading.

Installing Profile System Beta 2
  • Backup your forum's files and database, and keep them locally on your computer
  • Download Profile System Beta 2 (1.0.1) from the MyNetwork downloads centre
  • Upload the files, following the structure in the download folder, relative to your forum's root folder
  • Visit the MyNetwork Overview and you should be able to see the Profile System listed in the modules
  • Simple click on Install Module and Profile System Beta 2 will install
  • Check out the Profile System Support FAQ for more info
If you run into any issues, please use the relevant Support Forum here on Xekko.

Upgrading from Beta 1 to Beta 2
To upgrade to Beta 2 you must uninstall Beta 1. Go to the MyNetwork Overview and select the Profile System module. Then, select the Remove/Disable Module tab along the top (to the right) and select Uninstall this Module. Do not remove the module files. Press the Continue button and Beta 1 will be uninstalled.

Once uninstalled, download Beta 2 and upload the files to your forum root (or follow the folder structure in the download). Once uploaded, visit the MyNetwork Overview page and select Install Module next to the Profile System. Beta 2 will then be installed.

If you receive any error messages, please let me know. And remember to take a screenshot!

----------

Profile System - Activity Feature
Alongside Beta 2, there is also the Activity feature. This will track a user's new posts, threads and reputation actions through an activity wall in their profile. As a feature, you should be able to follow its hooks and functions to see how to extend the Profile System's tabs and setup.

Installing Activity v1.0.0
Please treat this as a beta release.
  • Backup your forum's files and database, and keep them locally on your computer
  • Download Activity v1.0.0 from the MyNetwork downloads centre
  • Upload the files, following the structure in the download folder, relative to your forum's root folder
  • Visit the MyNetwork Overview and select the Profile System module - Activity should be listed here
  • From Activity's Options menu, select Install
If you run into any issues, please use the relevant Support Forum here on Xekko.

For more information, see the Activity Feature Support FAQ.

----------

As always, have fun! And remember to report any problems you have!

Most importantly - remember to backup EVERYTHING before your upgrade anything.

In addition to the above updates, there's a few more on the way too.

These past few months have been a bit of roller coaster for me, and I'd just like to apologize for the lack of updates over this time.

I've taken the decision to drop a few projects from MyNetwork and Xekko to reorganise the work to be more efficient, and for me to spend time on the more important things - not only for me, but for everyone else too. The main problem for me was that I'm stretched across way too many projects - between my personal work, Xekko design stuff, MyNetwork and MyBB (including writing the start of 2.0), I've had little room for 'real life', which itself is getting busy too.

Here's the major changes that we'll be getting around here:

Xekko
Xekko's theme is a tableless theme, and while I think it's awesome to have, it's a pain in the ass to maintain and update. I've had a new theme partly finished since Christmas and I just keep finding problems everywhere. So, to save time, I'll be ditching the tableless campaign and looking for an awesome theme I can customize for Xekko.

I love Jordan Lovelle's Photoshop Bliss 4, so I hope that's available soon. While I 'like' themes other people have made, this one definitely stands out too much not to be excited about it!

Along with a new look, I'm hoping to reorganise the forum too - it's not the busiest of forums ever, but it can be more helpful. I won't be taking on much custom work while I get MyNetwork finished off, so instead, I'll be making a new 'Question Time' section where you can ask any question you want about me, MyBB, coding or development in general. Hopefully I'll be able to post some handy tutorials in there too that are sitting around my laptop!

MyNetwork
One of the projects that has barely seen the light of day is MyTracker 1.2. With sad face, I won't be developing it anymore for 1.6 or the standalone version - I'm going to wait until MyBB 2.0 is released to show off its plugin system and a guide/introduction. It makes sense, as the coding behind it is very similar (I was using a different framework, not Yii) and it will feel right at home in 2.0.

With that said, I will still be updating Tracker to work better with 1.6. It will be a MyNetwork module and it will have new features. Just none of the sweeping changes 1.2 was going to bring in.

Another thing people were expecting was Comments. The first time I made it, it worked quite well. It basically replicated the way comments are done on Facebook - pretty swish too. I wasn't happy at the coding though, so I've decided to do it again and do it properly this time - so this feature will be available along with bug fixes for Beta 2 (if there are any!).

If I've said I'll make you something, I'll get round to finishing them soon.

Again, thanks very much for the patience! I really hope things get back to normality soon!

This is just so AWESOME. Thank you Tomm, I will be installing the Profile System on my testboard and seeing how I can get my existing profile plugins to integrate into the tabs.

The Questions area sounds great - I have to say (is gonna make Tomm go all shy) that you have always been helpful and kind and answered all my noob questions. I am very proud of the way my board looks, and a LOT of that is due to you and your helpfulness.

Regarding the time on updates - well jeez, I have ONE little board - and now we have this great update and I am thinking "hmmm, lets see, was gonna do the menu and roll out quick reply - and now to test new MyNetworks stuff...." If I am struggling to find time to do things then how must it be for you?

Thanks for all the neat plugins and help so far and looking forward to the site changes and more plugins.

PS OMG THAT POPUP IS SEXY..................bah.

Thanks! I'm sure you'll have lots of fun trying stuff out!

The popup is actually coming with Beta 3 (or release, whichever is better) - you can put anything in it, including quick reply boxes, but it will mainly be for statuses and stuff like that. Tongue

You can read up on the latest updates in the Core & Profile System Updates thread.

Status? Would that be like the custom status for MyBB that Pirata did? If so (cheeeeeky fish) can it be made so that we still get the overview of statuses on Index like Pirata's does? My members really like it.

I am currently using the comments plugin from the mybb mods site (great plugin) and I have noticed that my members are using it to "ping" each other as it gives a message on the header. Of course, its not AJAx but its nifty. Now that would also cause much wailing and gnashing of teeth if it was gone. Unless of course there was a EVEN COOLER "poke" feature Wink

Correct Mr. Fish.

I've taken a look at Pirata's version, and it's pretty similar. You can turn a setting on which makes a table of latest updates visible on the index - a table which of course you can customize and place wherever you want on your page. For example, you can have it looking like Pirata's Custom Status, or you can have it looking like Invision's sidebar of latest updates thingy whatever-it-is. It's up to you!

MyNetwork Status requires that you install the Activity feature (you can of course turn off the notifications for the other activity). New statuses appear in the activity feed for the user and you can update your status directly from your profile or from the forum index.

Just because it's you, 'Poke' comes with Beta 3/Release. Basically, it allows users to poke each other like you do on Facebook - I think I remember it being mentioned in the original MyNetwork thread over on MyBB. It works via AJAX (so javascript is required) and a nice overlay'd box appears in the bottom right of the screen that says 'Tomm, leesester and Pirata Nervo poked you! Poke them back!'. Obviously usernames are links to profiles (where you can poke individually) and poke them back pokes all of them back! There's a dismiss pokes 'X' (similar to how you get rid of the PM alert) that removes the notification.

Wow! Incredible work you're doing Tomm! I wish I could write something more explanatory, but I am Spanish and I can not speak well in English. But really you're doing a great job, do not be normal times.

Incidentally, you name MyBB 2.0 ... Is there any release date or something?

A greeting and thanks Tomm!

@abdonroda - thanks!

No, there isn't a confirmed release date for MyBB 2.0 - public or internal. I've almost finished writing up a Road Map for it though and there are preliminary dates in that.

What I mean by my comments is that Tracker 1.2 was written using the Symfony Framework and integrated into 1.6 so that it all looked like one application - I never finished it though. Although it would be possible, it doesn't make any sense to create Tracker 1.2 with Symfony if 2.0 is going to be using Yii. I'd just have to do more work!

It would be quicker and easier for me to write Tracker 1.2 alongside writing MyBB 2.0. Not only that, it means I can test the plugin system and provide a demonstration on how it works too. Plus, I really like Yii - it's a lot better than Symfony and I'm glad MyBB chose it. Big Grin
